Why it is in the kits

Two kits use Claude for the work that makes a site look hand-built when it was not. Local Lab's content tool takes the spreadsheet of businesses the Places scraper produced and, for each one, optionally reads the business's own website, then writes a 150 to 300 word description and three to five selling points. It writes a new spreadsheet, which you import. Test mode does three rows so you can check the prompt before paying for a thousand.

Job Lab uses an AI provider for fifteen metered jobs: curating and discovering skills and roles, enriching company profiles, tidying locations, scoring listing quality, extracting jobs from a career page when no applicant-tracking feed is found, tuning the ingestion keywords, writing the newsletter intro and filling in the setup wizard. Safe changes are applied; merges and deactivations wait in a review queue. Every call is metered, there is a price list you can edit, and a monthly budget that pauses the jobs at the limit.

The provider is a choice. Job Lab ships with it off and supports Anthropic, OpenAI or a local Ollama model. Local Lab talks to Anthropic directly, Claude Sonnet by default with Haiku as the fallback.

Worth knowing#

  • This is the one part that costs money as you use it. Both kits take the key from the admin (Job Lab stores it encrypted) and skip everything AI when it is missing.

  • Job Lab's default model is the most expensive tier; set the budget before you switch the jobs on.

  • Local Lab's tool runs inside the web request, so on a server with normal timeouts it finishes a handful of rows. Run it on your laptop for the big batches.

  • Launch Lab has no AI in it at all.
