Why it is in the kits

Job Lab is a Next.js 15 app using the App Router only: 176 pages, 83 of them in the admin, 32 route handlers and 52 files of server actions, all in strict TypeScript. It builds to a standalone server, so the Docker image is the app and nothing else.

A job board needs more than pages. It pulls in thousands of jobs on a schedule, indexes them for search, sends alerts and newsletters, and talks to Stripe, Telegram and an AI provider. Next.js lets all of that live in one process: the server's startup file validates the environment, loads the keys saved in the admin, configures the search index and starts every background worker and scheduled job inside the same server. There is no second container to run.

The framework also does the search-engine work a board lives on: a dynamic sitemap, robots, a web-app manifest, share images drawn on request, and a middleware that adds security headers and a correlation id to every request.

Worth knowing#

  • Public settings such as the site name are baked in at build time, so Job Lab builds one image per site. The deploy script does this for you.

  • Local Lab and Launch Lab are Flask, not Next.js. The kits use what suited each job.
